I had brunch with a dear friend of mine some time ago and we were talking about his 6 year old daughter. I love how much he loves and adores her. It is one of the things I like best about him (He’s also easygoing, family-oriented, fun, funny, smart, and handsome;) in case any of my single readers are looking;) haha 😉 So the story he told me has been resonating with me all week.
First of all, he said his daughter loves school! (that warms my heart, cause I was a nerd that loved school – still do) He said she has two best friends at school a girl and a boy. So first, I love the fact that she isn’t intimidated or deterred by boys, secondly….
My friend hasn’t had a ton of interaction with her little friends – but occasionally he drops her off or picks her up from school, so he saw he saw her talking to her friends and asked, not because it mattered, but just because he was curious, “T, is XXX black?” she looked at him and said, “what? no. He’s my friend”. haha, she didn’t even know what he was asking. I LOVE that. Children don’t see color. They don’t see differences. They just see people… other children as friends or not friends.
What if we never taught them about race? what if we never gave them stereotypes? What would the world look like?
Matthew 18:1-5 says, He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
