Part ONE:
We bought an abandoned house. He wanted to trash it all. I wanted to “treasure hunt”! You just have to squint to see the potential. @treasure_haus #trashtotreasure.
My husband started by clearing the overgrown vines. It took him and a friend all day but they cleared it!
The first few months I had to wear a respirator mask to breathe inside the house. Not only was it dusty, but it was also apparent that the former tenant was a heavy smoker. The house had an overwhelmingly sickeningly sweet, strong, musty, dusty smell that made it hard to breathe. Everytime I left, I had to rinse my sinuses to get the smell out! (i love my navage https://www.amazon.com/Navage-Nasal-Irrigation-Basic-Bundle/dp/B01787L6QY!)
There was a thick layer of sticky tarry fuzzy dust on everything. yum. gloves, please.
The sheer amount of stuff in the house was overwhelming at first, the tenant appeared to have some hoarding tendencies but they also had some distinct hobbies and interests that peek through too. (any guesses?)
There’s a story underneath it all…Who lived here? What happened to them? Were they always this way? Did they have family?
I feel kind of exhilarated as I wade through it all – what treasures will I find? This is like real-life NCIS looking for evidence, reading her letters, and talking to her neighbors… Would you wade through and look around digging for treasure or tear it down?
